What is Acne?
When we talk about acne we are usually referring to whiteheads, blackheads, or pimples. These usually appear as raised bumps with black, red, or white heads. These can occur as a result of a multitude of different reasons such as excess sebum or oil that our skin produces, hormonal imbalances, or can even accompany other concerns such as Rosacea. Acne can affect any area of the body that has hair follicles but typically the most distressing area it affects is the face. Acne Scarring
Acne scarring occurs on the skin during the healing process or from ‘picking’ at a pimple. During this healing process, the skin naturally sends collagen to the affected area in order to repair the skin from the damage caused by the pimple. The skin can send too much collagen to the area which can lead to the thickening of the skin surrounding the area, these scars can often be referred to as boxcar or icepick scars and without treatment can be permanent.
